Do the headlines you read seem too obnoxious?

Are the keywords trying to get you to click on a story?

Does reading the news seem like an ongoing mission to avoid being trapped by fake content?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you have joined a growing multitude of readers who are getting tired of being duped into wasting their time.

But what, if anything can be done about it? It’s hard enough to be selective with the limited free time we have to view or consume content. Now we have to worry about artificial intelligence writing stories and baiting us with their tempting titles.

Something needs to change. Well, I agree with that and I am hopeful that the future of news and stories is going to get better as time goes by.

The Medium Whisperer

My advice is for writers on Medium and elsewhere to develop a whispering style in both their stories and headlines.

You don’t have to have the most exciting headline in the world to get the world to read the content.

Here are some examples to avoid:

  • I’ve Embedded Myself Into Average Society To Discover True Emotions
  • As A Former Pathologist, I Am Letting You Know What You Must Never Eat
  • Having Loved And Lost, I Will Never Be Socially Vulnerable Again

My opinion is that I cannot stand wild headlines and content that is like bait on a hook where I am the hapless, helpless fish being tempted by easy treats on a line.

We need a whispering style that is not loud and annoying. The story whisperer my method can be different and better than the overbearing headlines and teasers on the news feeds.

Whisper Formatting

You can do things differently as a writer. Here are some suggestions:

  • Be subtle
  • Use fewer words in the title
