Things are different in the world these days, that’s for sure, so we can’t really plan vacations or go on holiday like we used to. But that doesn’t have to stop us from having some fabulous virtual vacations.

One of my favorite places is the Grand Canyon in good ol' USA. I used to live and work there so I know it well and I can’t wait to go back and have more adventures. Well, I guess I can start right here on my computer because people have shared lots of amazing videos on YouTube on other sites.

Grand Canyon Railway and Hotel in Williams, Arizona

I would love to go do this first, as I sit on my couch at home, so I search for videos and pictures about this topic. I’ve heard so many great stories about the good times people have had taking the train from Williams to the Grand Canyon south rim. I heard that sometimes you can get a train that has a pretend robbery like the good old days of the Wild West. Watch out for those (pretend) bandits!

Driving by car

Of course you don’t have to take the train. Most people use their personal vehicles to get to the Grand Canyon. There’s a small airport not far and I have taken little flights from Las Vegas before to get here so that is another way.

But if driving by car, I sure hope you checked to see if the Grand Canyon is open on the days you visit. Always check on this before you start your trip. But if it’s open, stop and pay the entrance fee and then drive a bit to the Grand Canyon Visitor Center near Mather Point.

Here you can stop and ask for information and a map. Look around and take pictures.

Hotel reservations

I sure hope you made your hotel reservations many months ago because that’s important. You can do this online through the Grand Canyon Lodges website.

You have a lot of choices for your room reservation. I really like the El Tovar Hotel next to Hopi House. It’s so beautiful inside and comfy and it has a great restaurant. You can look up videos and photos and see if it fits you and your family. There’s also Bright Angel Lodge, Maswik Lodge, Yavapai Lodge, and other hotels. They also have dining areas.

Hiking and mule riding

There are countless videos and photos of people hiking trails or riding mules in and around the Grand Canyon. Make sure you do lots of planning before considering these activities. Most people just hike for a short while for the experience, so don’t overexert yourself. Some people like the stay at the Bright Angel Lodge and wake up early to see people get on the mules for their rides.

Experienced hikers enjoy the challenge of the many trails at the Grand Canyon. Make sure you have maps, water, and other supplies. You may also need to get a permit so check in on that before you head out.

Rafting the Colorado River

People love river rafting on the Colorado River inside the Grand Canyon. You should be able to find videos online of people doing this.

If it’s something you want to do, make sure you plan ahead and get reservations in advance. It can be a lot of fun but there is plenty of planning that goes into it.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this virtual vacation from your couch and that the videos you’ve watched show how wonderful it is at the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
