Simple things are wonderful

If I had a choice, I think I would like to receive something simple this year. I don’t need that much.

Here are some ideas:

  • A quiet day of nothing
  • A full hour in front of the fire
  • Soft holiday music
  • A super slow day
  • A soft spoken word
  • Some laughs here and there
  • Happy thoughts
  • Uninterrupted sleep
  • A moment free of worry

I understand that I should not ask for anything. So I don’t. Because I really don’t want anything at all.

Then again, maybe a vacation one day would be nice. I have some destinations in mind.

  • More time under the Eiffel Tower in Paris
  • Riding trains in Tokyo, Japan
  • Sunny days in Santa Monica, California
  • Moments in Morocco
  • New York City, indeed

This holiday season, give the gift of nothing much at all that amounts to so much. You would be surprised at how precious it could be to someone else to have a simple quiet day.

For the future, you can give them the gift of planning a vacation for their favorite place in the world. You don’t have to buy tickets or make reservations. Just ask what it would be.

Pick a place of your dreams. Where would you go? For me, maybe something simple, a little bed-and-breakfast place in Napa, at a vineyard, during grape harvest season. I think I would like that very much indeed.
