Reasons Why You Must Be Your Own Top Spokesperson
Represent yourself in a professional manner every day of the week and more
The other day I overheard a conversation. One person has just answered a question that was meant for somebody else.
“What are you, her spokesperson?" said someone in their group.
That got me thinking about something. Are we, either intentionally or accidentally, acting as the spokesperson for somebody else and stepping in where we don’t belong?
“If someone does that again, you need to speak up," added the third person. "Say something like, ‘Thank you but I would like to answer.’”
Conversations happen fast. It’s easy for one person or the other to want to contribute or try to be helpful. But the reality is that it could be doing more harm than good, especially if it is not letting a person think and answer for themselves.
A spokesperson is often needed in politics and other professions. That is a job and those people in that profession have the skill, talent and training to communicate the goals and objectives of the person they are representing.
For regular people, we need to be able to speak for ourselves and answer our own questions. If somebody else is doing this, we need to put a stop to it right away.
