Find ways to support your fellow writers by locating the content that resonates with you
I’ve discovered something recently.
It seemed pretty obvious before, though I didn’t understand it fully.
Writing on Medium is a big community full of wonderful people who have a common goal of using their written content to connect with others. Yes, that has been true all along.
What was I missing all this time?
It’s not even that big of a deal, really, other than the fact that it now motivates me every morning, noon and night.
I was missing the most important thing that I needed in order to find success, so here it is.
I was missing the part about myself looking for and finding on Medium the content that I really wanted to read.
How is this different from any time before? The difference lies in the effort that it takes to look for it. Often, for me at least, the algorithms are not able to find the content that I want to read.
Sure, my personal feed presents all kinds of great content that I read and support. Every day is a new buffet of written words that I appreciate and adore.
Like looking for gold nuggets, you may have to seek far and wide to find them on Medium. Many are hidden, like way under a mountain or far from the river, like pieces of gold hidden far from the prospectors.
FIND GREAT CONTENT
What can you do to find interesting written content on Medium? Here are some suggestions.
- Your favorite writers. Go to their pages and review their work from weeks and months past. You can bet that you will find lots of wonderful stories that can connect with you.
- General search topics. Let’s say you like soccer, surfing or cereal. Whatever it is, just do a search for your topic and see what has been written about it.
- Using a search engine. You can also go to Google and type in the words ‘Medium’ and ‘writer’ plus whatever you are…
