Start planning now for new plants

I love gardening and digging in the dirt. If you love it like me, you may be itching to get out and start doing things in the yard or garden.
You don’t have to spend a lot of money to do garden work. Just use your creativity.
Here are some ideas on keeping gardening costs low:
- Buy pots at garage sales
- Buy bricks when they’re on sale
- Buy plants that have reduced prices
- Ask for vine cuttings from family
- Ask for excess plants from friends

I really like flat bricks in my garden. They’re great because you have lots of walking area. Plus, you don’t get your shoes muddy.
I also like to create little plant islands that you can walk around. This helps to be able to get to all sides of the plants and you can easily pull weeds or pick flowers.
Another thing I learned is that you can’t have to much dirt against a wooden fence. I hadn’t considered this and then wet soil up against the fence started rotting the wood.

I love succulent plants. They don’t need much care and do well in my area of California.
I like plants that have lots of moisture content and don’t dry out. You’ve got to be really careful and prudent if you have plants or flowers that get dry or that can burn.
I am so excited for springtime. Yes, I will get red itchy eyes and need to refill my allergy medication, but it will be a great garden with wonderful smells.
