The Stock Market Is (Not) Going To Zero

But I’m starting to get nervous

Fancy cars

I saw this beautiful fast car recently. I don’t know if it’s one of the fastest cars around or not, but it sure looks like it could burn rubber. I bet it’s so fun to drive with the top down, just racing down the highway without a care in the world. A big smile shows up on your passenger’s face as the two of you conquer the world.

I’m not one to judge others. In fact, I confess to having envy because I’ve read the reports and heard the talk of the latest wonders on wheels, this one or that one, on how all you have to do is get inside and buckle up and that’s it. That’s all, nothing else, no more.

Coffee

I admit to spending money on coffee at the local cafe. I always order a small latte, nothing more, and I feel guilty for these small purchases.

The other day a clerk thought I said caramel latte and I said no, because that would have cost a few dollars more. It’s these little expenses that add up over time and I’m trying to save more and spend less.

Saving money

I’ve learned that there’s no express lane or shortcut to saving money and cutting expenses. It’s a long, hard road of making sacrifices and using the credit card sparingly.

It is tough when I hear about the big vacations that others take and the memories they make. But there will come a day when we will have our turn at the fun wheel.

Risk tolerance

I’m not here to write about which investments are safe, which stocks are dangerous, or what people should do next. I don’t think the stock market is going down to zero. People have to make their own financial decisions, and yes seeking professional guidance is a good idea for everyone.

I have some recommendations. I recommend having low debt and plenty of savings. I recommend having side hustles and side gigs to earn extra money when and where you can. I recommend spending less, using coupons, cooking more at home, spending extra quality time with family, and playing board games.

I don’t know the future. Except I know I will not be in a fast, fun car on the highway, but I will want to me there and I’ll be happy for the people having a good time.

You see, good times may not last in some ways, but we have each other and we can have our own good time in our favorite ways.
