I grew up
In California
Over in the Central Valley
And of course
I loved grapes
And I asked for them
All of the time
And they were quite available
As you can imagine they would be
In places not far away
Like Lodi and Manteca
And Napa and Sonoma
Then later on
It may be hard to believe
I got a bit angry and bothered
And you may ask why
But the reason is because
I worked at different wineries
And now I cry a bit even to this day
I learned something
Working at the vineyards
And the wineries too
And that is you and me are missing
Something so wonderful
You see
The best grapes in the world
Never make it to the stores
I try to forget the times
When vineyard managers
Took me around in the fall
During harvest
And we sampled the many
Wine grapes on the vine
Destined to be crushed one day
And I tell you now
That they were so delicious
So bursting with flavor
Endless varieties of them
So perfectly wonderful
That I wish so much
That I could go back to those days
In the winery vineyards
And have those times back
When I got to sample so many
Of the most delicious grapes ever
And how I learned that some things
Are so hard to forget
