The written word is so powerful.

You can uplift a person with a sincere message.

You can destroy someone with a sequence of syllables.

How can that help you as a writer on Medium? There are plenty of ways. The hard part is finding the method that works best for you and your personal community.

YOUR WORLD

Your experiences are often quite different from other people around you. Being a different gender is one large set of different experiences. Living in a different part of town can also immerse you in a universe of contrasting experiences.

What is uplifting to you? A simple morning greeting with a few words could be all that it takes for you to have a great day.

For those reading your work online, you may need to write some effective words within your message of positivity. Beyond that, you may need to layer a tone of determination between the lines. You could also supplement with quotes or expressions that have worked with others.

Connecting with the public can be challenging given the array of life expectations and motivations. It may help to establish where you are coming from, both literally and figuratively, so that your audience can determine if you have any shared experiences or a common ground.

THEIR WORLD

As a man, I can’t really understand the full range of what it is to be a woman. I can generalize from some shared experiences and events, but I know better than to assume that my experience is similar to theirs.

This is also true about life in different parts of the country. Although I have lived in six different states, the zip codes of where I lived had different environments. Even when I resided in Los Angeles on different occasions, I could feel different stressors and challenges based on the location of my apartment.

The uplifting words that you are considering writing about can always be more specific, more tailored to a certain audience or group. They can be specific and possibly they will be more effective that way.

When you write about positivity and you consider using uplifting words, think about your audience and your followers. Who can most use your message today? You may be surprised at how tailoring your written content can be more impactful than a general story about staying positive and strong.
