Recently I was on a phone call with a representative of a vacation club.

It was fine.

I accepted the call voluntarily because I’m always interested in good deals.

This call was with a company that offers free hotel stays in exchange for attending a presentation of their properties.

Okay, back to the call.

“We offer vacation stays in wonderful places like Miami, New York, Cancun and Lake Tahoe.”

Those are fabulous places, I thought.

“Which one of these appeals to you?" he asked.

Without hesitation, I answered, “Lake Tahoe."

The reason I answered the way that I did was not because the other places are not wonderful locations, because they are. It is because I spent many weekends or summers in South Lake Tahoe and Reno so I have an emotional connection.

Emotions are powerful. And the right words can pull in readers if writers do it carefully and creatively.

So then the vacation club representative asked if I prefer a three-night stay or a four-night stay, and then he started talking about refundable deposits and other things.
